I'll help clarify

Reggie Rankin is an ESPN recruiting analyst. Analyst is the key word – he’s not entirely tuned into the entire process, but well enough.

I’ve talked with the Insider guys before and they’re usually okay posting brief Insider snippets, so here we go:

I could see Leslie at the front of the Maryland press, flying around attacking on both ends of the floor. It could be tough to pull off but Maryland fits this kid’s game. My pick: Maryland

I’m glad my comments on the other thread led to this topic being talked about! We have a solid class coming in and as time goes on I feel better and better about the loss of Ross. CJ Leslie will be bigger than Ross. We need you. Top 15 definitely next year if he commits.

Oh, and just to remind you

DROOL DROOL DROOL.

That said, Rankin is more of a scout than an insider. Everything else says Kentucky is the team to beat.

Buzzkill.

Now I’m less enthused.

If nothing else, it means Maryland is still involved. And maybe C.J. will see this and give the Terps a good hard think.

jeez no recs, I at least wanted one. Joking haha

Anyone know anything on Josten Thomas?

IMS says he is a JC sophmore who would love to come to MD.

by sunny2189 on Feb 8, 2010 6:38 PM EST reply actions

Thomas

He’s a JUCO guy from Idaho. Went to HS in MD, was originally a 2009 prospect at NCA and Montrose. ESPN had him at 89 the first go-round, and he was a 3 star on Rivals. ESPN writeup makes him seem like a more athletic Landon.

His team is pretty loaded, and has Carrick Felix, whom Duke is recruiting. He’s averaging 15 and 9 a game.

It’s not unusual for JC players to head home after they qualify. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it, and he was high-major the first time around. Lots of reasons to believe it would happen, and it makes some sense from an MD perspective – if nothing else, he spaces out the ’ships a lot better.

Personally, I’d rather have the Langfords, but I’ve never seen Thomas play. I don’t see any reason to be opposed to it.

I dont think this means ANYTHING

hes just implying that he thinks Maryland would be the best fit—- thats what he believes (rankin)

perhaps ranking is right, but there has been absolutely no word that leslie agrees with this sentiment.

100%

but maybe he sees it and realizes that it is a match made in heaven.

keep dreaming...

And i’m not one of those negative.realistic fans either. I always predict/hope for the best when it come to my favorite teams and getting CJ would be tough, because once I saw Calipari’s Kentucky is the school we are competing with then its a done deal. By taking a glance at the rankings on rivals this guy is waiting on 2 things.

1. Where will Terrence Jones commit to, because Kentucky is on his list as well.
2. Wait for season to end so he know who’s staying and who’s leaving.

If Jones commit to Kentucky then we may have a chance, but we still have to beat out Georgetown which I think is unlikely with the success of Monroe. I think you guys have to accept the fact that we are a 3-4 star recruit school and that is something I have no problem with as long as we its always more 4’s than 3’s and they improve vastly from year 1 to year 2 (like Sean Mosley) and continue to improve to the point they’re playing like a 5 star freshmen their junior years.

He isn’t even considering gerogetown

by terps721 on Feb 8, 2010 9:29 PM EST reply actions

He hasn't mentioned Georgetown.

But its been on his list and he hasn’t eliminated it either.

Judging by what I've heard,

we’d beat GTown out for C.J. He really likes Florida after Kentucky…he actually took/is planning to take his official there. He has yet to announce his 3rd and 4th official visits. We’ll know more about our chances if he takes an official here in the spring.

by kckb8 on Feb 8, 2010 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

Brandon Knight

Hopefully if Knight commits to Florida that would send CJ looking else where to be more of the focus. I mean maybe that would make him like Florida more to play with a 5-star point guard, but maybe it could push him off them

no

the less talented they look the better for us. We need cousins and patterson to stay.

by sunny2189 on Feb 8, 2010 11:56 PM EST up reply actions

YEAH, RIGHT.

norvel pelle?

who is he? He has some connection to Pe’shon.

by sunny2189 on Feb 9, 2010 1:57 AM EST reply actions

Pelle

Looks like a big 2011 guy out on the West Coast. Pe’Shon used to live in LA (think he grew up there) and ran with an AAU team out there last summer, so he’s probably played with/against Pelle a fair amount.

He made the USA team, so he knows Sterling Gibbs, Justin Anderson, and Quinn Cook; always encourage connections between recruits. I think he was a reserve, though, because he doesn’t have any stats on the official website. He’s thin and a little short for a center or even a PF at this point (just 6-8, 190ish) so I’m assuming he’s more of the long and athletic type. Given our lack of a shotblocker, the fit would be good.

by Ben Broman on Feb 9, 2010 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

Pe'Shon

He is quickly becoming my favorite player. Gotta love how excited he is about coming here. He also said he might wear #21 when he comes here. I like that, not scared to take over Vas’s number. And he is one of our best recruiters. for example hes still tryin to get Ross to come here. Pe’Shon is my BOY!!!
