ACC POY?

Stay connected for news and updates

A colleague of mine brought this up at dinner tonight, in response to the "SHIMMY" Vasquez Obamicon I tacked up in my cube: what are Greivis' chances of winning the ACC Player of the Year?

The two main candidates in my mind are Vasquez and Scheyer... Can someone more knowledgable fill me in on the gory details?  When the voting is done (before the ACC tournament or after), who votes, etc...

The best argument I was able to come up with against Scheyer was that he isn't necessarily a lock to be the best player on his own team.  I may be completely alone, but I think Singler's size (and similar stats) give him a slight edge.

The colleague then pointed out Maryland's lack of a marquee win. I gently reminded him that Duke's only major OOC win was against Gonzaga (not counting tail-spin UConn), and that the conference has been a beatdown.  (And that Clemson and GT were ranked when they played Duke).

How much does all that factor in?   Is GV going to get screwed by spiteful Carolina-centric sportswriters?
