Latest Bracketology: Maryland a 7 Seed
Closing in on that oh-so-coveted 6 seed. Go 3-1 with a decent tourney, and we might just pull it off.
Oh, and guess who Maryland would be playing: Cal.

Ooooh
I remember those punks over at Golden Cal Blog were so POed when we beat them last year and they wanted a rematch so bad. And then they got blown out by Oregon State. Honestly, how is Cal still in the field? I hope we face them. We’ll destroy them.
They have to let someone from the Pac-10 in...
And Cal is probably the best team in that conference.

Would you rather win the ACC tourney and lose in the second round of the tourney or not win the acc tourney and get to the sweet sixteen?
Sweet Sixteen
Much rather have them go as far as possible in the real tournament, that is what matters, especially since we haven’t been to the Sweet Sixteen since 2003.
Yep, 6 is the magic #
I think a 6 is very much in reach. Actually, I’m pretty sure we can get a 6 just by going 2-2 (which would be 11-5 overall) and at least one win in the ACCT. If we go 3-1 (to finish 12-4) I think we’re looking at potentially a top 4 seed, especially if one of the three wins is against Duke. How we finish the season is a huge factor in seeding – remember the surprisingly high seeds we received in 2004 after the ACCT run, and in 2007 when we finished the conference season w/7 straight wins.
does anybody know
How many spots in the tournament are reserved for the winners of the lower conferences’ champions?
More Good News
Andy Katz had this to say about the current ESPN/USA Today poll:
“I would have seriously considered putting in Maryland, Virginia Tech, Baylor and Xavier this week. There would have been some tough calls, but I might have tried to find a home for at least two of them, notably the Terps.”
Also, under the bubble watch, there were some encouraging excerpts:
“The Terrapins won three games last week to move up a line to “should be in” status."
“he Terrapins sure looked like an NCAA-worthy team last week, sweeping three games against Virginia (home), NC State (road) and Georgia Tech (home). The win over the Yellow Jackets, which came on Cliff Tucker’s buzzer-beater at the Comcast Center, was especially big. It was Maryland’s third victory over an RPI top-50 foe (the others were a sweep of Florida State). The Terps are 3-6 against RPI top-50 opponents and 7-6 against the top 100. There isn’t much that is impressive about the Terps’ nonconference profile, though, with their best victory coming against RPI No. 107 Fairfield. The Terps host Clemson on Wednesday and play at Virginia Tech on Saturday. They play Duke at home on March 3 and finish the regular season at Virginia on March 6.”
I don't know how much to trust their words
Considering how oh-so-openly they are rooting for Connecticut to get in. It’s like with Georgetown last year, when they were 16 – 14 and “almost had to win the Big East tournament” in order to get in.
So honestly, if a team like that is one of the last four teams out, then the Terps really just have to beat Clemson or Virginia Tech (or UVA and an ACCT game) and they’re in. I thought last year’s bubble was as weak as I’ve seen but this is even worse.
If we’re a 7, we won’t get Duke, and we probably wouldn’t get Villanova either, which leaves Ohio State and somebody. To me, nobody this year is unbeatable, so I’d take going 1 – 3, being a 12 and getting an overrated AAU shit team like a 5th seeded Tennessee in the first round followed by a rematch with a 4th seeded Butler team, but that’s just me and my opinions are known to cause controversy.
Then again, playing our way up to a 6 and nuking Connecticut would be the most enjoyable win I’ve seen since I enrolled at Maryland in 2004, so there is some merit in that route.
Let’s play the games see where we land. I say 7.
Is Jerry Angelo fired yet?
Is Vinny Del Negro fired yet?

Compiles 60 mock brackets. Maryland has an average of 7 right now.
Just get in! ...
The Terps are overdue for a long dark horse run in the NCAA tourney. We can run and shoot as well play half-court set effectively. A #6 or #7 seed puts us under the radar and on the launching pad to the Final Four.
