John Gasaway has a really nice lead-in to Saturday's over on BP's Unfiltered: http://www.basketballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=454.
The reason we are playing so well has not been an improvement in rebounding. We have barely improved over last year, although the additions of Williams and Padgett have been refreshing. Gasayway correctly identifies the source of our efficiency as simply making shots. Just look at the numbers: 2FG% improved to 51% from 46%, and to nearly 40% from just 33% from beyond the arc. Those are drastic improvements. We are also scoring from the line with increased frequency, although we are shooting a slightly lower percentage when compared to last year.
Our offense is really quite dangerous. This is the first year since Pomeroy's numbers were made available (2004) that our offense is better than our defense. Although that distinction as become less clear over the last few games (see OEff/DEff rankings on the scouting report), such a suggestion would have been blasphemy for a Gary Williams-coached team.
I cannot wait for this game. And, the game in CP is going to be NUTS.
