A Call for the Next Coach to KEEP DON BROWN
Everyone is arguing back and forth about who should be the next head coach for our Terps. You know what though? I really don't give a damn, as long as its Malzahn, Leach, or another relatively high profile coach.
The crucial decision in this process will be whether the next head coach keeps DC Don Brown on his staff. In 2009, the Maryland defense experienced some growing pains in getting use to his schemes, but this past season, we saw the defense mature before our eyes.
Even though the defense was GREAT this season (never giving up more than 31 points in any game), Don Brown did it all with some holdovers from the previous DC's defense (i.e. Wujciak). Next season, if Brown sticks around, we will see his complex defense (and "schoolyard" scheme) at its best. His recruits (those that best fit his schemes) will finally see significant playing time, including the speedy Desmond Kearse, David Mackall, and Darin Drakeford. Even though we are losing the talented trio of Wujciak, Moten, and Perez, Brown's defense will only get better next season, especially with A.J. Francis, Kenny Tate, Demetrius Hartsfield, Cam Chism, and Joe Vellano coming back.
So whoever the next coach is...
PLEASE KEEP DON BROWN!
And Don, PLEASE STAY!
The players need some semblance of continuity, and if that can come in the form of Don Brown, then I will be a VERY happy man.

could not agree more.
brown was easily my favorite coach on this years staff and would be a huge loss
Lets gooo Maryland
Amen
These kids finally get his scheme and it’d be a real shame for them to have to start all over just when they’re getting good.
Don Brown - Absolutely, positively
Brown shoukd be retained for all the reasons you cited
if brown comes back then malzahn would be better. everyone knows or at least believe that malzahn assuming he comes will jump to a more elite program. well if brown is still here , thats a big if, then it would be a no brainer to make him the hc. that way malzahn could bring some great recruits and don brown could keep bringing his guys.so when malzahn jumps ship we keep brown that way we have a familiar face to at least have a chance to keep the recruits that we aquired.
as you can see i put alot of thought into this but thats just my opinion
Whoa whoa, when did you drink the spiked Kool-Aid?

Edsall is a Defensive guy
and runs a different scheme compared to Don Brown. Not sure Don Brown will be retained.
I like Turtles!
Good Post
Brown’s work has been paying off and our aggressive style gave us a lot of game changing turnovers. (if we could have taken advantage of more of them, we maybe even could have won the ACC)
Not sure if he as qualified as Leach or Malzhan though, but his staying would also provide some needed stability at a senior coaching position.
Couldn't agree more.
I was not on the former UMASS man taking over but I have become a believer and look forward to watching this D continue to improve.

What about Tom Bratton
He’s not as important as don brown but he connects pretty well with recruits . Unless Franklin has snatch him up already.
uh oh
per WaPo
Maryland defensive coordinator Don Brown has interviewed for the defensive coordinator position at Vanderbilt, as well as for the head coaching position at Elon, according to the source.
