It's Like Christmas: Nick Faust Announces Decision Today

Photo

Today's the big day, everyone. I'll be opening an open thread closer to decision time, but in case you somehow weren't aware of this fact: Nick Faust is announcing his college choice today on ESPNU's Recruiting Insider at 5:00 (which means the actual announcement will be coming closer to 5:28).

Faust has been considered a Maryland lean for the past several months, with assistant coach Bino Ranson's hire potentially being a nail in the coffin. He's also considering Villanova and FSU, but the other schools have consistently come and gone from his list. If you're wondering, Villanova fans think he's Maryland-bound.

Faust is ranked four stars and in the top 50 players in the country across all three major services. ESPN has him at #25 in the country overall, which would make him Maryland's highest rated commitment since Mike Jones (so...eh).

The anticipation is mounting.

Rivals is saying that the announcement is at 6.

I’m going to watch starting at 5, but don’t turn off the tv if you haven’t seen anything by 5:30 – the announcement may be a quick, 2 minute break between shows.

Time for Faust’s segment on ESPNU Per Baltimore Suns recruiting report

by chrisp24 on Oct 28, 2010 9:38 AM EDT reply actions

I just don't understand what all the hype is about...

getting Faust alone is not going to do anything for this program. People are making it seem like we are going to the final four if he commits to Maryland. It is still all about the players we surround him with.

by ATLredskin on Oct 28, 2010 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

And

we have surrounded him with quality and talented players, you donk.
Jordan WIlliams, Sean Mosley, Padgett, I am assuming Howard is going to be sick. I think we all of us think Pankey is going to be solid. And there is talent all over the backcourt.

Unlike football

Unlike football one great player in basketball can make or break a program. Take the Cavs as an example. With Lebron they have the best record in the league… without lebron they suck. Look at Carmelo Anthony… comes in as freshman with a decent team and the win the Nat’l Championship. How about Kevin Durant… How about our team last year w/out Grevis. How about Davidson with Stephen Curry. Your comment makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. A SG can totally change a team

by Charlotte NC Terp on Oct 28, 2010 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Cavs

Cavs beat the Celtics last night. Celtic beat the Heat. Through the transitive property, the Cavs are better without LeBron than with him.

Then again the Nets are in 1st place in the East right now.

Mia Culpa

I admit I was wrong, but you can’t look at comments out of perspective. Yow is gone, Gary is a new man, and Bino has brought back Baltimore. This could be one of the few times were able to grab a top tier guy, and hopefully there will be more of this to come.

ATL is just a donk. I’m only a curmudgeon. And why has nobody pointed out Faust has Strahan teeth?!?

I'm with you...

but didn’t Syracuse have McNamara and Hakeem Warrick?

by Terps2K6 on Oct 28, 2010 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions

haha why wouldnt we be excited?

not every day a highly recruited prospect picks maryland (hopefully)

by tmoneyttime1 on Oct 28, 2010 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions

man your stupid

dont understand what all the hype is about…you serious?…after today we will have gibbs and faust signed for next year..that is a solid backcourt right there..Faust would be our highest recruit since Mike Jones and the kid has the potential to be a great player..we will have talent surrounding him and he does have the ability to be a program changer…what a donk comment

by Janosek21 on Oct 28, 2010 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

we've been missing

that one elite/star player on our team for quite some time (since Juan I think). I’m hoping that with Gary’s coaching, Faust can develop into that star player

Getting a highly touted prospect like Faust

will make Maryland more attractive to other high rated prospects…gotta start somewhere

BOOK IT

I hope he comes down to College Park this Saturday. I will be back for homecoming and would like to congratulate the man.

Great day, but begs the question

Love Faust and excited to have him as a Terp. I guess this still begs the question why our ceiling for top recruits is the #25 man in a class. Faust is a beast, but why can we not get a top 10 guy every few years? I love Gary Williams and I hope he stays forever, but recruiting has never been his strength. Maybe it is because he runs a clean program, but it seems that UMD has the tradition and reputation to get some big name players every once in a while.

by davidbburn on Oct 28, 2010 11:42 AM EDT reply actions

Kentucky

Well Calipari pays half the top 10 each year to go to UK since he has to replace his entire starting team. Gary doesnt have the money to compete with him. Then you have the other powers like Duke, Kansas, UNC which will always get there top guys.

Note: Don’t have evidence Calipari pays anyone, but many signs point to yes.

by El Goodd Terps13 on Oct 28, 2010 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Haha

Just look at him. The man is a crook. He just signed a proffesional european player basically.

by MurlandTerps on Oct 28, 2010 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Calipari is a pillar of the basketball community

He’s a national treasure who should be cherished and respected…just like Chuck Norris

by word2bigbird on Oct 28, 2010 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Its really simple. Gary runs his program the way every program should be run. No agents, no under the table money, no shoe deals, just an overall clean program. He doesn’t deal with kids who are in it just for themselves or parents who are just looking for a quick buck. Gary wants good honest kids who want to win more then they want to average 20 points. It is a shame that the best high school players are turned off by this type of program but its the way it is. Gary has proven he doesn’t need top ten recruits to win, in fact the best recruiting classes he had (garrison, mccray, gilchrist etc.) were some of the least succesful. I trust coaches judgement and am super excited if Faust commits.

He's commiting to MD

Heard it’s a done deal on 105.7 in Baltimore on Bob Haney’s show… He has good bball connects.

Hopefully it’s a new era in MD recruiting…

Hell Yea!!!

This is awesome!!

Next Year:

Senior Mosley, Junior Jordan Williams, Sophmore Mychael Parker, and Freshman Nick Faust. Those are four really good players to build around (even if Mosley, Parker, and Faust can’t all start.)

Plus supporting cast of Padgett, Pankey, Weiss, Howard, Stoglin, Gibbs, Palsson,

C’mon Baru, join the party, baby!!!

by earlbadu on Oct 28, 2010 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

Howard

Don’t overlook Howard,

He come’s from a College/NBA type high school. I believe he is better then Parker.

by Timothy Bowen on Oct 28, 2010 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Dang...we are loading up on 4 star recruits

and not scrubs but legit athletes and skilled players

if Faust develops his dribbling skills he’ll be better than Rivers IMHO

by word2bigbird on Oct 28, 2010 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

I just wanted to post because it seemed like the cool thing to do, haha. Don’t forget, Space and Hubert are visiting this weekend too so we could land one or both in the coming days or weeks.

Gibbs

Will Gibbs be down here since he is here every other weekend.

by El Goodd Terps13 on Oct 28, 2010 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I can breathe again

And Nick should come down too so he can join the party and convince Space and Hubert to come. I’d lock up Lewis or Hubert asap, whichever one decides to come her first. Then use the last spot for Space if he wants it or wait and press our luck with Baru.

by johnnyrobs13 on Oct 28, 2010 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

how many visits can he make.

I thought you were only allowed 1 official visit. I know you can make as many unofficial visits as you want but he has been here a ton. Who is paying for everything. Is it a recruiting violation if he stays with the guys on the team? Does he come from a well off family?

by Charlotte NC Terp on Oct 28, 2010 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

You can come as many times as you like

But only one can be paid for by the college.

thats what Bmore does. We just produce NBA SG’s. Dixon, Durant, Melo, Cassel, Grant Hill, Muggsy Boogs (PG), and next in line…….. Will Barton, Josh Selby, and Nick Faust
