Maryland Minute 10.26.10 - Steve Blake FTW!
In case you missed it, Steve Blake, with the Lakers down 1, hit a $$$ 3-pointer that ended up being the game winner for the Lakers against Houston. Check out the 2:30 mark on the video. For future MM, I'm going to try to highlight any outstanding plays or performances by former Terps players who are now in the NBA. Let me know what you think. If you like it, I'll keep it up. If not, it shall go the way of the dodo. It probably won't be in every MM, just when a former Terp has a big game/key play, like Steve Blake last night.

Tracking the Terps: How should the Diamondback respond? - Jeff Barker - baltimoresun.com
Still a lot of talk going on about the DeSouza-mocking cartoon the Diamondback published yesterday. I think it was stupid, and mostly classless (and not funny), but if they want to make themselves look like idiots, they're certainly entitled to go down that road. But should they respond? Jeff Barker is asking fans what they think of the Diamondback's cartoon. What say you, Terp Nation?

#48 Maryland: 2010-11 Preview - Collegehoops.net
Sounds pretty reasonable.
Maryland may seem like a team moving in the wrong direction due to the departure of their top three scorers and that may be partially true since this team will not likely tie Duke for the ACC title this time around, but this is a good team that should be right in the mix for an NCAA Tournament berth. If Bowie can handle running the show, or if Stoglin is up for the job, the Terps will be looking for more than simply an NCAA appearance.
Howard is more promising than Stoglin, but other than that, it's okay. -BB
My Take - I think it's a little low, in my opinion. I think we'll surprise a lot of people. I think we should be in the mid to upper 30s...

No Problem with Cartoon
I have absolutely no issue with the Diamondback publishing that cartoon. I feel like it was in no way poking any fun at DeSouza’s injury. It was shedding light on on the serious issue of campus safety, especially with the scooters. I understand why athletes have and use these scooters, but often I think they are not used in the safest way for those riding them or those around them. The cartoon was presented in a way where it was very easy to misinterpret, but I think the message of the cartoon is an important one, and I have no issue with it being printed.
Obviously a huge Diamondback supporter. (Groupie?)
That cartoon was classless, regardless of its intention. I have no issue with the artist drawing it, but I have a HUGE problem with the Diamondback choosing to publish it. Some editor somewhere down the line should have had the sense to keep that from being published.
This was a great opportunity for the Diamondback to write a serious editorial about scooter and bicycle safety on campus, which is a huge issue. Bicycles and scooters blow through stop signs with no regard for other cars on the road or for the safety of pedestrians.
When you are riding a scooter or bicycle in the road, YOU MUST FOLLOW THE SAME RULES AS A REGULAR CAR.
The Diamondback blew a golden opportunity to address that issue, instead opting for an unfunny and insensitive “joke.” Way to go, assholes.
That's what they attempted to do
The message of the cartoon was that. but, as I said, it was presented in a way that was deemed insensitive and easily misinterpreted. both the cartoonist and editor apologized profusely for it. it’s obvious that nobody on the staff intended to make a joke regarding DeSouza’s injury; they were using his injury and status as a football player to shed light on a much larger and more important issue. did they present it in the wrong way, maybe, but it’s the newspaper’s job to shed light on these issues.
Noonan’s comments that sheezy posted below tell the rest of the story.
Agree to disagree.
Along with thousands of other objective viewers of the cartoon.
Just an FYI, from the diamondback
FROM THE CARTOONIST: My editorial cartoon published yesterday has been regretfully misinterpreted by a number of readers. I, along with the entire university community, am relieved that Pete DeSouza is expected to make a full recovery from his recent accident. The cartoon’s message was meant purely as a commentary on campus safety. It was not at all my intention to make light of his injuries, nor to mock him personally in any way. I extend my apologies to anyone who was offended or upset by the cartoon.

Howard/Stoglin
I have seen a few times on here that we assume Howard is going to be better than Stoglin, including in the post above. I hope both are great, but Stoglin was ranked higher by all the services and is more of a pure point. I am not pretending to know which will ultimately be better, but why are we so quick to so Howard is the better prospect.
Not quite a fair comparison anyway, as Howard is more of combo guard and Stoglin a definitive point.
To be honest
this team need leadership and great passes from the point, not scoring. Stoglin is a 100% scorer. Pe’Shon gives you everything else. I think that’s why everyone is so high on Pe’Shon.
Notice that that does NOT mean anyone is low on Stogs!
That was the most excited I've been for an NBA game since
…well, ever.
For me, they are now officially the Los Angeles Blakers.

Hey Dave, when I read your writeup on Blake...
I immediately read MM as Midnight Madness. Which, after thinking about it, would make SO MUCH SENSE. Show highlights of Blake, Joe Smith, Dixon, etc. in the NBA. Isn’t MM for the fans and recruits? What better way to cater to both?
cool
he don’t look like a skinhead anymore lol good move to grow some hair in a couple places…
Sadly my most promienent memory of Steve Blake is the last shot of his college career,
a missed 3 in the NCAA tourney…and i flashed back to that shot right before he hit the game winner. The fact that he is player over Derek Fisher in crunch time is HUGE. Derek may not be much of a creator, but if there is one thing he can do it is hit clutch shots.
