Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

According to this story, Jin Soo is having trouble balancing academics and the rigors of college basketball. He's apparently failed a class for the fall semester and would probably be suspended as of Jan 22nd, so he's instead decided to go back to Korea and try to play ball professionally. Big loss for our bench. Jin Soo seemed to have potential, but I guess we'll never know now much now. Hope Goins' nagging injury improves soon, because our bench is getting thin and fast...
Props to Trolly for first reporting this.

Big Loss for our Bench

This is not a big loss for our bench what so ever. What productivity did Jin Soo ever bring to the team. The answer is absolutely nothing. I don’t know what potential people saw in him I wish I could have seen it.

Not a big loss in terms of ppg...

…but a big loss if we get in foul trouble. Hopefully Padgett will see more time now, but if our forwards get in foul trouble, you might see Pearman or Levent in there now. No offense to either of those two, but I’d rather have Choi in there over them. That’s what I meant by loss on the bench. And Goin’s has some injury that apparently won’t heal, so we’re down to a 6 person bench…

No big loss

“Big loss for our bench?” Hardly. Only if you mean space occupied.

Zero minutes against W&M, and how many for the year? He just didn’t pan out.

Juvonte Reddic

We should be serious about going after him and Langford now.

2010's class just got that much more important

What do we have, 5 scholarships now? A 5 person class has to have an impact…

Agree - no big loss

As far as I could tell, Jin Soo had no real potential. He was underweight for the post, a bit too awkward to handle the ball, and although he was touted as a shooter, he never really showed that aside from his first game. Granted it could be tough if we get into foul trouble.

FORGET REDDIC

go after JUCO big man Ricardo Ratliffe. We need a spark in the front court next year. Riddick will take awhile before he helps. May already be late getting in on Ratliffe, but it is worth a shot to try.

by t.shug on Jan 5, 2010 1:04 PM EST up reply actions

yea i see him on both

but he seems to get inside info on certain situations and people ask him about stuff so i was wondering who he was.

by word2bigbird on Jan 5, 2010 1:19 PM EST up reply actions

but a lot of his info is surprisingly similar to whats posted on insidemdsports

Just a big Terp fan

have been since the early Lefty days. I don,t subscribe to any inside b-ball sites.Played b-ball in school, loved Lucas, Mcmillen,Elmore and all the rest. Was the favorite subject to chat about with my dad until his passing right after the National Championship with Juan and the boys. Played against the best player Baltimore ever produced , can you name him?? Hint , think 70,s . I enjoy this forum and like to hear from just about everyone on it. Go TERPS ! ! !

by bigmanvan on Jan 5, 2010 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

Good guess

but for my money Skip Wise is the best to come out of B-More. That includes Carmello Anthony and all the other great local talent over the years. Wise was the fastest player I ever saw. He could hit from 30ft out and in the next breath have his elbow hanging from the rim. All this at about 6 ft 4 and right around 190lbs. Such a shame he tossed it all away, some say he may have been the best player ever anytime if he kept developing.

Not an insider

Anyone who has a premium account on Terrapin Times or IMS knows that anything that DBR guy says is not exclusive. I’ve never seen him post information that is inside info but if TTK or IMS reports info, a few hours later he’ll go on his blog and say stuff like his sources tell him, or he’ll make some calls but its a fraud. I found this to be obvious when a very reputable poster on IMS said Gary had a meeting with Tross. This guy is famous and is on TV and his sources are better than most Terps fans and then an hour later “DBR” has a guy “Call him” aka he logs onto IMS and reads the post and then posts it on his blog.

Thats why I dont post on his blog anymore, its just a bunch of people who bow down to this guy that has information that any Terps fan on premium knows. Testudo Times is a better blog first of all, but Ben and Co. dont come off as wannabe insiders.

UK Basketball Staff Will Visit JUCO Star Ricardo Ratliffe
Dave Telep of Scout.com reported earlier today that representatives from Kentucky would visit Ricardo Ratliffe, the nation’s top-rated JUCO basketball prospect.

I contacted Ricardo and he did confirm that the Kentucky staff will visit him this week.

He added that his JUCO team, Central Florida Community College, is now sitting at 14-4 on the season and playing better lately.

Ratliffe is a 6-8, 225 lb. power forward that is receiving looks from several high-major programs including several in the SEC and Big 12. He lists Kentucky and Louisville as schools that are recruiting him.

Wow

That’s a hell of an uphill battle.

I’d love to land Ratliffe, but I’m not sure how viable that is.

by Ben Broman on Jan 5, 2010 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

Yes it is

but worth the time. From what I can find out about him going back to high school in Hampton Va. The kid looks like what I talk about adding to the front court. Someone who has a good body but also mobile enough to come off his man and cross the lane to block a shot. Sorely missing at this time and the recruits coming in do not fit that mold either. Anyway, just a chat point that I still can,t believe hasn,t been talked about before. Once we start playing the ACC schedule this need sticks out even more. Just as the lack of quicks on the outside to defend the 3-ball..Anybody down in Florida on this kid and can give any info. Put him next to J Will and Parker in the front court next year, would look ggggggggggggggooooooooddddddd!

by bigmanvan on Jan 5, 2010 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Best of luck to him

He was averaging 4.9 mins a game with 0.8 ppg. He was a shooter who didn’t shoot. His novelty/cult factor wore off pretty quickly once that became evident. Hopefully he’ll have a great career whatever he chooses to do.

Just saw Jin Soo

I just saw Jin Soo Choi and his female friend or possibly girlfriend at Tyson’s Corner Mall. He was wearing a white hoodie. You really can’t miss the guy as he was the tallest asian guy in the mall. Guess he now has a lot of time on his hands

by Terplaw on Jan 5, 2010 5:54 PM EST reply actions

I once saw Jin Soo Choi at Target in Greenbelt 2 hours before the Terps played Nova in DC. . . I thought they would have to be at the arena a little earlier than that

by CurrentTerp3 on Jan 6, 2010 11:20 AM EST up reply actions

Contrarian

Not to be a contrarian, but I liked Choi over the long-term. Remember that he skipped his last year of HS to qualify for Maryland early as a 17 year old freshman. He was orginally in the 2010 class. This should have been his freshman year. I think he could have developed into a good quality 4-sized small forward by the time he was 20. It’s not a huge loss to see him go, but I never agreed with the consensus on this one. Choi was a high energy player guy who looked like he could be a good offensive player once he got more comfortable on the court. Having said that, I hope Gary can use that open scholly to bring in a high ceiling athlete in the front court.

by Brooklyn D on Jan 6, 2010 2:01 PM EST reply actions

I like Choi over the long term too but for a different position

You are absolutely right about his skills and energy. However, I doubt that he would ever carry enough weight to play at the 4 in the US. I do think he could have developed his ball handling and competed very well at a wing. I know I would like to have seen him shut down opponents with his size and D.

A few factors really worked against the guy. As you said, he came out of HS too early. Then, he came here when our frontline line was depleted and had to play as a backup at the 4. And, it seems that he was having problems with the language. I am sorry to see him go. I won’t be surprised at all to learn some time in the future that he is doing well in the KBL.
