2002
Your Uconn quip makes me realize once again how amazing 2002 was…remember that we beat powerhouse storied programs like Kentucky, Uconn, and Kansas….
Yep
Oh yea look at how many NBA players came from those teams that we beat. We also beat Wisconsin and Sienna and obviously Indiana.
Not to nitpick here Ben, but I find it hard to believe that you fear UConn (this year’s version) more than Butler. UConn has exactly one road/neutral win this year, and that was against a very bad LSU team. They are similar to FSU in their makeup and strengths/ weaknesses. Butler’s not quite as good as they were three years ago when they spoiled our late-season run, but I still think we match up a little better with UConn.
Not sure I agree on you with this one
You’re right on almost everything you say, jj, but I disagree here. Not much is right in Storrs right now, but they still beat us in talent level handily. They did just beat Texas, after all. Kemba Walker is the small, quick type of guard that gives this defense so much trouble. We have no one to match up with their length, which, as you alluded to, is FSU-esque. The difference between them and FSU is that UCONN has significantly better guard play, which really helped us out against the Noles.
I’ll agree they don’t have any good wins away from home, but they haven’t played terrible out of Storrs: all of their away losses were against teams in the top 60, and they lost by an average of just 5 points a game. They were 3 points away from beating Kentucky, 9 from Duke, and 3 from Georgetown.
Butler might have that weird offense, but they just beat Loyola by 1. They beat Detroit Mercy by 2. When these level teams are sticking with them, I feel a lot more confident, especially considering their two resume wins came with huge caveats – Ohio State didn’t have Evan Turner, far and away their best player, and Xavier got jobbed by the refs.
Oh, and what Ivan said.
ESPN
Maryland is a 13 in Lundardi’s latest bracket also
CBS
We are also 12 on cbssports.com latest bracket. The thing about it is the guy has us winning the ACC (I think the tournament, not the regular season or possibly both) and he still has us as a 12 against Ohio State.
Off topic
I am getting excited about J. Reddic
