Mychal Parker Commits, Is a Terp

Sweet.

Maryland landed an oral commitment from 6-foot-6 swingman Mychal Parker last night, according to multiple sources familiar with Parker's recruitment. Parker, a native of Washington, N.C., is rated as the No. 48 overall prospect by Scout.com. Rivals.com ranks him at No. 70. He becomes the third member of the Terrapins' 2010 recruiting class.

My first question is why would anyone involved with Mychal Parker's recruitment give Prisbell/the Post info on Parker, but that's for another day.

Parker, of course, was the target of a Washington Post "AAU/handlers/shoes are bad" sort of piece, which didn't really win me over on WaPo, but did nothing to damage Parker.

If you're unfamiliar with Parker, he's a guy seen as very talented but a little rough around the edges. He has all the physical tools to become a solid contributor in the ACC, and . He dunks a lot, and is more of a slasher than the shooting-inclined Terrence Ross or Terrell Stoglin. He's probably guaranteed to be top 75.

This is, obviously, a big get. Not as big as Ross, not as big as a guy like Roscoe/Harris/Jones/Leslie, but still a big commit, one that likely solidifies a top 15 class for Maryland. More on how this affects the other big targets in Maryland's recruiting process later today.
