Cal Game to be a "Blue-Out"
I have one big problem with this: the "*color*-out" really only works if the word has another meaning. White out? Yes, cool. Black out? Even better. Blue out? Uh uh.
Anyway, I guess we should take this as a compliment. They're afraid. Unfortunately for them, the Counting Crows really aren't the most intimidating musical group they could've gotten.
Oh, and the Chancellor's video is legitimately the funniest thing I have seen today. No joke. Cringe-worthy, but because it's the enemy, it's actually very funny.

Are you serious?
It really isn’t that difficult to understand. Blue is the team’s color. They want everyone in the stadium to wear blue. Happens all the time at college football games right? It is certainly not a compliment to you. Get over the chancellor, the campus media people that decided to call it a ‘blue-out,’ and the stupid Counting Crows (why would you be wasting your time with all that anyway?). This is about the football team, and none of that other stuff. Cal is a solid, experienced, fast team with a lot of great athletes, including a guy that can score from anywhere on the field. They also have not lost at home in Berkeley since November 2007 against USC, and won every game last year by a combined score of 256 to 111. Whatever it might be that you think “they’re” scared of, I guarantee you it is not the Maryland Terrapins. Your team will be lucky to avoid a blowout. Talk all the crap you want, but enjoy the beatdown.
PS: Adding two things...
I concede defeat for last year, no time-zone excuses here. I don’t think one should infer much about the coming game from that one though. And I’m not looking to start any arguments with the good people of Maryland, I was just responding to one guy’s silly post. Looking forward to a good game. Peace.
by the way
Sorry for the third post, but I can’t believe I forgot this and can’t resist:
“Cal game to be a blue-out” is supposed to sound like “Cal game to be a blowout.” It isn’t meaningless. It’s a play on words, specifically a pun, whether you think it is lame or not.
Sorry you took this the wrong way, but it wasn’t meant to be an insulting post. There’s no doubt that Cal is good, and I never said they wouldn’t be. I never mentioned a word about the team. Never did I say the idea was stupid. I really like the color out idea, and Maryland has done it several times. All I did was rag on the name (while blue out may sound like blowout slightly, it’s definitely not the first thing I thought of, and never did until I saw this), as well as the choice of people to deliver the videos – the chancellor, who I’m sure is a great guy but was not the right guy to send that message, and the lead singer of the Counting Crows.
While “afraid” might’ve been the wrong phrasing, you only do these types of things against opponents you respect – Maryland has blackouts against Florida State, not Duke. It’s a sign of respect that we as a football program haven’t gotten in awhile.
What was so bad about that?
Well when you put it that way, there’s nothing so bad about it at all. It was hard to interpret “afraid” any other way, but if you meant that your team was being respected around Berkeley then I agree. Maryland is a very respectable opponent. I also concede that the chancellor is way too dorky for that job, and that the Counting Crows are not the greatest ambassador for a football team. In defense of that choice, though, they’re from Berkeley and have been watching games from the field for a long time.
Looking forward to the game. Don’t count on Jahvid blowing chunks again.
Thanks for tolerating an outsider on your board.
From Wikipedia
Duritz was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of two doctors, and is of Russian Jewish descent – but is now “impersonating African Jamaican”, he says. Early on he moved to Boston, then El Paso, Texas, and finally to Berkeley, California.
Weird.
hehehe
“is of Russian Jewish decent but is now “impersonating African Jamaican.” I can no longer defend this choice, I don’t care if he was born in the Bears locker room.
