Terps Nab Top QB for 2010

Your newest Terp, 6 '4 QB Tyler Smith from Easton, Pa.

Your newest Terp, 6 '4 QB Tyler Smith from Easton, Pa.

Just a few hours ago, Ralph Friedgen and staff locked up their fifth commitment of the 2010 class, receiving a verbal from one of the top QBs in the region, Tyler Smith.  The signal caller from Wilson Area High School is 6 '4, 190 lbs. and is listed on ESPN's watch list of Top 150 prospects for 2010.  According to his ESPN bio, the guy has the arm strength and the accuracy to make all the throws and is a pretty good athlete. He's also referred to as someone that people "will being seeing a lot of in the future," and the "definition of upside." Obviously, he can't step on the field until next season but if the Fridge can add a consistent talented QB with all the young weapons the Terps have at WR and RB, we could be talking about a truly explosive offense in the next few years.  Anybody else excited about this pick up?

A Few More Years

This is definitely really good news for our program but I think he will need at least a few years to mature as a player and learn the system. The upside of this prospect is exciting to see how he pans out. GOOD WORK!!

Hell yea

The Franklin HCIW announcement is paying dividends already. We may question his play calling at times but the man can recruit, no doubt about it.

we were excited about ricker, and portis

qb prospects are tough to predict…but everything i read about this kid is good

yea, Ricker was supposed to be sick

but he ran off! Then Portis came in with so much “potential” it was unknown who he really was! JP lacked “it”, he just wasnt as talented as his physical tools couldve made him!

But this kid being referred to as “the steal of the class!” is exciting! Plus, everyone knows i like a QB that can run when needed, and it sounds like he can do just that! But of course the biggest thing is his arm.

Quarterbacks

I don’t get excited about quarterback signings until I actually see them on the field. Don’t be surprised if Ralph doesn’t sign yet another QB in next years class and have at least 4 QB’s battling it out by 2011. Recent history shows at least one of these guys will transfer out by then anyway.
