Terps to Play Villanova in the BB&T Classic
Just about everyone involved in the BB&T Classic, the DC-area in-season "tournament", has been trying to get Georgetown to join in recently. They've continued to refuse, but the tournament, which Maryland participates in, just got a lot more interesting with a new addition: Villanova. Nova has been on fire lately, and not just on floor (they reached the Final Four, remember), as their recruiting class was #1 in the nation before Calipari worked his "magic" at Kentucky. Two of their recruits are from the area, as both Isaiah Armwood and Mouphtauo Yarou attended Montrose Christian.
The Terps actually play the Wildcats in the first round this year, which could be very interesting if Greivis stays. Nova also has their star in limbo - Scottie Reynolds is in the same position Vasquez is right now, with one foot out the door but with the potential to stay. I believe Nova will join Maryland, George Washington, and George Mason, with more schools to be announced later.
The same article mentions that Maryland took a road game against UNC Greensboro. I don't exactly understand why we are playing at UNCG, but I guess the road part means we won't see a drop in RPI for it?

That Sucks!
i would much rather play GW or George Mason, Nova is going to be tough next year.
I think it’s pretty good. I’m excited that they’ll be able to play Villanova this season. Who’s gonna fear a terp when you’re thinking the way you are? We beat some pretty tough teams last year, UNC…Wake to name a couple. Who’s to say we can’t beat Villanova? Have some faith man.
sorry bro,
but you misinterpreted what i said. I was talking about playing Nova in the first round of the Tourny! Wouldnt you prefer to play GW or GM in the 1st round instead? if not, you’re missin a screw.
And trust, theirs no shortage in faith here!

Doesn't really matter
We play the loser of the other in the consolation game anyway. We play the same quality of teams.
Sorry bbro,
the “Consolation game” doesn’t excite me. You’re still missing the point. I would rather play a lesser team in the first game because a teams chances go up dramatically if they play an average team and then a Great team. Not to mention, we’re not necessarily known for coming out of the gate strong.

Differing philosophies
I couldn’t care less about winning the BB&T Classic. As long as our SoS remains the same, I’m cool.
As for the chances of winning increasing, I have to disagree. We played the best team in the Old Spice Classic (MIchigan State) first, and we beat them. We proceeded to lose the next two (albeit to pretty good teams). I don’t think the order of teams has as much of an impact as you do, I guess.
correction, at the time,
MSU was far from the best team in that tourny. Anyone who watched that game can tell you that.
And you dont seem to be interested in winning the tourny, just our strength of schedule. But 20 wins is 20 wins pretty much, and lets not forget what Conference we play in. This isnt VCU or Gonzaga, we dont have to worry about our strength of schedule when six teams in our conference are in the top 25.
And regarding the order we play the teams, i personally felt it was always better for the team and their chemistry to play a lesser opponent than to jump onto the court with a top 10 team immediately. Maybe its just me, but that sounds logical, does it not?

To an extent, yes
But logically, we’d also lose to them because they’re the better team. I just don’t see team order making a difference. We either get a prep game to tune up, or they don’t get a prep game and we catch them rusty – both have their pluses and minuses. Neither is really better than the other.
As for strength of schedule, it’s extremely important. In all likelihood, we’re a bubble team next year (unless GV comes back, of course). Every single SoS position makes a difference at that point. Saying you’re SoS was 25 is a lot better than saying it was 40.
And you’re exactly right – I don’t care at all about winning the tourney. Preseason tournaments mean jack squat to me. I can understand if you feel differently, but I personally couldn’t care less.
you know what
If we get BR we would move from a good to great chance of winning the BB&T

Eh?
“Nova has been on fire lately… as their recruiting class was #1 in the nation before Calipari worked his “magic” at Kentucky."
It almost seems as if you think Calipari was involved in underhanded tactics in bringing three top-15 recruits to Kentucky or something. That’s totally not in his character :\
(Disclosure: Bulls fan hoping that Derrick Rose is not mentally affected by the NCAA’s investigations which seem to have him fingered as quite the not-so-bright-individual, but that’s neither here nor there :)
Somebody should make a comic called "Tulowitzki the Combat Shortstop". I'd read it.
