Vasquez Confirms - No Overseas For Him
Greivis Vasquez worked out with the Wizards today, and though I've yet to hear a lot on how it went, Pat Stevens of the WT posted a Q&A he did with the Maryland star. What did Greivis have to say on the topic of Europe?
GV: No. Let's make that clear. Not at all. Greivis Vasquez is not going overseas. He's not playing in Europe. I would like to get my education and get my degree if it comes down to overseas. I think I'm going to work hard to make it and be a pro one day. But it's not going to be overseas right now.
Outside of the annoying and yet simultaneously awesome third-preson reference, this is very encouraging news. While many had suspected this, it's nice to get some confirmation. There are several things he may be basing his decision on - the Lance decision, the vibes he's getting from teams, and Gary's advice among them - it's good to know it's NBA-or-bust.
As for actually returning?
Well, there are various quotes pertaining to that:
That's a hard question to answer right now. I don't want to be rude. The whole thing is just about me getting better. Why not go against guys like Jodie Meeks? What am I going to do at Maryland right now? I'm going to test the waters and get better. If I come back, I come back. If I have to move on, I have to move on.
I'm not thinking about how tough it's going to be. This is the time for me to get better as an individual. It's summertime. It's not about me going or leaving. It's about me getting better. If something comes up, it's hard for me to go. But I don't have to. I might stay. It's hard to say right now.
It'll probably be right there [his decision will come down to the wire]. I have a couple workouts left.
Alright then, Greivis is still an option. He still has awhile to go - I believe June 15 is the deadline - so he'll probably take his time. Combine Greivis with Lance (maybe, of course - the team is still pretty good w/o him anyway)/JWill/Padge/the returners, and that's a scary good team.

Grievis has the opportunity to jump way up the draft board in 2010
Whether or not he makes the clear choice to me (stay in school, enjoy another year of one of the best times of his life, shore up certain skills he will be told he needs to by NBA scouts/teams), Greivis has been fun for me to watch playing at UMD. Greivis has passion for the game, and plays hard That is what I ask of a player when I watch them play. BR also has passion for the game. Bring the guys together with a hard nosed, close knit experienced bunch along with JW and JP, and we’ve got something to look forward to by the end of next season after Gary gels the guys for a March push.
Talk about a tough as nails team. Sean Mosley is relentless, as is Adrian and Landon. They will just keep coming at you and not let up. Effort counts, and it pays off. If the guys stay grounded they can “upset” the favorites of the ACC. But really, Teprs fans will not be surprised next year.
