Painter, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound power forward at Hargrave Military Academy, has heard from a bevy of major programs since parting ways with the Gators a couple of weeks ago -- Maryland, Marquette, Michigan State, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Missouri -- but Maryland is the only one he's decided to visit thus far. He doesn't have a visit date set, but expects to be in College Park in the near future. Maryland recruited Painter -- the No. 19 power forward and No. 64 player in ESPN's 2009 national rankings -- the first time around, and Terps assistant Chuck Driesell called him shortly his UF de-commitment went public. "After I opened it up, they wanted to talk to me. Coach Driesell called and said they wanted to the opportunity to talk to me and recruit me, and hopefully get me there this time," Painter said.

Painter has been plummeting down the rankings recently, but if he's interested, I wouldn't turn him away. He's another top 150/100 type of guy, and we aren't yet in a position to tell those kids no. Not to mention it seems at least one big guy will be leaving, so we need someone else for depth. -via Terp Center
