Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

The Maryland women's basketball team has announced the intention of sophomore guard Marah Strickland (Mount Airy, Md.) to transfer to another institution following the completion of the spring semester.

...

The University of Maryland women's basketball team announced that sophomore forward Drey Mingo (Atlanta, Ga.) has decided to transfer to seek more playing time.

They seem to be in a bit of a self-destruct mode right now. Next year could be tough. On a semi-related note, I wonder when we'll see the men's transfers?

Self destruct mode?

please…these girls are transfering b/c they don’t think they will get PT…

Partially agree

It’s certainly not self-destruct mode, as Tiimbitz indicates, but PT is only an issue in the case of Mingo. Strickland was a 2-year starter, so you can’t use PT as a reason for her to leave. I’m very puzzled about her departure…

let me be more articulate

she was not going to be the focus of attention…so she and “her camp” decided to move elsewhere where she could be the focus of the attack…dara is gong to take her spotlight

Not to sound rude...

…but Strickland would be one or two in terms of scoring options next year. And I don’t think Dara is going to take her spotlight, especially off a two-year starter who showed she can play in the ACC. And where did this “her camp” stuff come from? Is it speculation or is there a story I’m missing?

Failed attempt at tounge-in-cheek

They aren’t anything close to self-destruct mode, but Dara Taylor wouldn’t command that kind of attention in her first year. Isn’t she like top 15 tops?

Is Marah ready for a bigger role?

Marah has paid her dues and is cleary in position for more of a leadership/scoing role. I am just not sure she is ready for it. She has her good points. She has a shooter’s touch and gets her shot off quickly. On occasion I have seen her create her own shot. She plays defense with her feet which is good. She may be the best fundamentally of the guards/small fowards. However, she doesn’t have much court awareness. She doesn’t play by instinct. She looks stiff out there most of the time like she is trying to follow instructions to the letter. Presses confuse her and she avoids handing the ball in pressure situations. One reason is that she is a very poor passer. She telegraphs them and doesn’t have any pop on the ball. They are intercepted too often. Still, she can improve in all of these areas. If she has any hope of getting to the WNBA, she needs to stay in a top program like Maryland’s. She not only needs to be challenged in games, she also needs to be challenged in practice every day. I hope she stays.
