The Maryland Lady Terps hoops team earned a #1 seed in the South bracket of the NCAA Women's Tournament, with some home cooking and a first round date with 16th seeded Dartmouth at the Comcast Center this Sunday. Baring a miracle upset the likes we've never seen, expect the Terps to play the winner of the #8seeded Villanova Wildcats vs. the #9 seeded Utah Utes next Tuesday.
Along with Maryland, the other top seeds of each region are Duke, Oklahoma and Connecticut. Top ranked and undefeated UConn is widely considered the best team in the nation by far and expected to cap an undefeated season with another National Championship trophy. However, many experts are predicting a Connecticut-Maryland final game, and I for one would love to see how we stack up against the best.
However, let's not get ahead of ourselves and if the Lady Terps take care of business like they have all season, they should put themselves in line for a matchup with the best. Seniors Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman are looking to top off stellar careers that started with a National Title in 2006 as freshmen. Finishing as National Champs as seniors certainly would be the proverbial icing on the cake!
