What the Big East should do then is target two schools: Maryland and Notre Dame. Maryland because the Big East owes the ACC a backhand and the Terrapins already know what Boston College is painfully finding out: the ACC is a North Carolina league and it doesn’t pay to be an outsider.
Providence Journal Talking About Maryland to the Big East
Go away, ridiculous rumor! It's not happening.

This rumor really is dumb. I can understand why the BE would want Maryland — it’d be a good pick up sports/academics-wise, we are the biggest ACC geographic outlier after BC (which already abandoned the BE), and it’d be payback to the ACC.
But why would Maryland ever want to go to a marginal conference like the BE? It’d be a clear step down. Like WVU going to the Conference USA. Farther geographic dispersion, no historical connection (no history, period. the BE was founded 1979!), far inferior academic reputation, lower quality of play in both revenue sports, and less conference prestige which would hurt with bowl and tourney selection.
The Big 10 rumor at least makes some small iota of sense. It’d be an advantage for both the conference and the school. The Big 10 has great academics with heavy emphasis on research, an illustrious history and name cachet, good football, improving basketball, and needs at least one extra school to get a football AQ. Maryland brings something to the table in all of those respects.
I concur re the Big Ten...
…the Big East rumors are, well, asinine.
it makes some sense..
but still the ACC is more prestigous and better competition brings better players. I love the ACC
