Ashton Pankey Visit Over: Liked Partying, McDonald's, and Maryland, But No Commitment
That's a good trio, right?
Ok, so Ashton Pankey visited Maryland this weekend, and gave some updates on his Twitter about the visit. If you forgot about it, here's the best of them (in reverse chronological order):
Ok, so I think it's safe to say Maryland is Pankey's leader. However, it's important to note that there was not a commitment, despite Pankey's previous comments. Because his tone was so upbeat, I'm assuming that was his decision, not the coaches, which would lead me to believe he wants to take a visit to, as his coach Bob Hurley said, "compare apples to oranges".
He could be headed to any number of places, from Fordham to Miami, though where he goes is irrelevant. What is important is that we could have another commitment in a matter of weeks, or days. When that comes, we'll break it down, but for right now, the coaches should be pushing on him, Hippolyte Tsafack, and Tobias Harris. Hard.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Hippo and Pankey. I feel like we will almost certainly get one. Do we take both? They seem like very similar players and so perhaps we only take one. Is there anyone left on the table for us other than the two of them, C.J. Leslie and T. Harris (assuming Josh Graham isn’t a target any longer)?
They're basically it
Haven’t heard Graham’s name in forever, so I’m assuming he’s dropped off the table. There are some guy’s we’re looking at – Gil Biruta, Stefan Nastic – but they’re fringe at the moment.
Actually, it’s possible we have six possible commits, so it’d be possible to grab all of Hippo, Pankey, and Tobias, if they all wanted to come. That’s crappy roster planning, but it’d be a killer class and not all that different than just taking five, considering Tobias is probably a one and done. I also wouldn’t say Pankey and Hippo are all that similar – both are true posts, but Hippo is more athletic and Pankey is more of a grinder.
ESPN has him as 2010

Although he is a year young.
Well, that answers that
Although someone just told him to go to Seton Hall, and he said “you never know”.
Still, be shocked if he wasn’t a Terp.
Stefan Nastic
why is MD even looking at this guy…he is ranked 40 on ESPN…seriously? We should focus on Harris all the way. If not him then Leslie cuz he is a beast. In the mean time, i’ll take Hippo over Pankey.
I don’t think we have a shot in hell at landing Leslie over UK. I think Harris is a longshot but we should go all-out on his recruitment. He would be a huge windfall IMO.
And yeah, as nmp said, an ESPN grade of “40” just means they never evaluated him. I don’t know why they use a number instead of just “N/A” or something.
