Ashton Pankey: "Commitment Comin' Soon"

Thank the lord for Twitter.

Looks like it's him. We'll see if his offer really is committable tomorrow or the next day. Something's telling me it's not quite there yet.

So whats going...

with Hippolyte?

Do you guys think we’re getting both Hippolyte and Pankey or is Gary waiting until THarris’ visit to accept Hippolyte?

I would much rather have Hyppo and THarris just because of Hyppo’s potential.

Is there a possibility that we are getting all three and someone might transfer next season?

First, I think that Pankey would be a great addition and establishing ties with St. Anthony’s would be a real plus.

I don’t think Gary believes he will land Harris. Folks seems certain that (for one reason or another) he is a strong ’Cuse lean (hope he enjoys the most depressing winters ever). But, I do wonder about the extra slot opening up. Hopefully this Goins injury will go away, but re-injuring a knee post-surgery is never a good sign. And, hopefully, Jin Soon will improve, but at 185lbs, he will never get playing time in this league at the 4, and we are too good at the guard positions for him to see minutes there, even next year.

Tobias Harris

Great information about Tobias Harris on this site:

http://www.allkyhoops.com

The site is doing and “all access” deal with Tobias through his recruiting journey. It is definitely worth a read every day.

It would make my day/week/month if we got him!

About tobias

he is following quite a few maryland players and he has been talking to dino and jwill a lot lately. Probably a good sign. Also i think Pankey committed to maryland so we now have 1 scolorship left. Tobias c,mon

Look good on bigs, what about guards?

Gotta say I’m excited about the future of Maryland basketball. Not to get ahead of myself, but are we going to have enough at guard to be really good in two or three seasons?

Obviously, some pretty big shoes to fill with Vasquez and Hayes leaving after this season. Mosley looks like he has the potential to become the team’s next leader (how awesome would it be to again have a star from Baltimore on the team?). And we’ve got Parker and TRoss coming in. Tobias Harris looks like an outside possibility (not getting my hopes up but that would be amazing). Even if we get Harris he could easily be a one and done.

We’ve been lacking at forward in recent memory, but I think we look great there for the next few years. How does everyone think we look on guards?

Bbroman and bagold, maybe a good idea for an upcoming post? A break down for the two to three future seasons.

Guard

Pretty stacked. Mosley, TRoss, Stoglin, Parker. Pretty nice backcourt, IMO. The only possible problem might be if Stoglin doesn’t pan out at PG, because we have no one else capable of playing there. Hopefully add in a top level PG (Quinn Cook, preferably) in 2011 and we’ll be very good.

Oh yeah

Forgot about Stoglin!

FYI

why are not interested in Jonathan Graham. ESPN seems to be really high on him and the fact that he is going to end up at UMD.

Jonathan Graham

Yeah, why is there no talk about this guy. He is ranked 93 on the ESPNU100. Is MD not interested or something? I think he has the highest chance of commiting to MD cuz his dad was a terp bball player.

Pankey Twitter

It got taken down. Was the post a recruiting violation?

Jon Graham is great...

…but other sites aren’t so high on him. And we have better big men to go after (Pankey and Tsafack).

hypothetical

Would never wish an injury on anyone, but if Steve Goins is unable to play again/must transer, would we give 6 scholarships out in 2010?? Hippo, Pankey, and one more??

by mdb280 on Nov 6, 2009 9:14 PM EST reply actions

Conceivably, yes

Though that’s really bad roster planning, and it’s more likely we’d save one for the next class

by Ben Broman on Nov 6, 2009 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

but we have a ton in 2011 already.

Re: Graham

He’s not bad, but he’s really overrated by ESPN. Both Pankey and Tsafack are better targets right now.
