Terps move up in rankings; make debut in ESPN/Coaches Poll

Terps moved up in both polls today: 21 in the AP and make their debut at 22 in ESPN/Coaches.
Other ranked ACC teams are:
Duke - 7 in both
UNC - 11/12 (and too high in both, IMO)
Clemson - 19
Georgia Tech - 25 (only in coaches)

Rankings are pretty meaningless, especially this early, but at the same time, I gotta admit it’s nice to be recognized.

stop sleeping on UNC

they are every bit the team we are…by the end of the year they will be a top 10 team and a top 4 seed in the tourny…put it in the bank!

I'll keep sleeping on UNC

until they prove something. I’ll take a team with proven players in college basketball over unproven players any day, and I’ll come out ahead every time. Do I think UNC has talent? Yup. But they haven’t proven they can win with it yet. And until they do, they don’t deserve to be ranked that high still. Their ranking is based on potential, not proven ability. I know you can argue that all of the polls at the beginning of a season are that way, but at least other ranked teams didn’t lose their entire starting 5 like UNC did. So again, when UNC start winning, I’ll give them credit. But while they keep losing to Syracuse, they don’t deserve it.

Ok, MD had a top 10 class in 2003

Did we deserve to be a top 10 team? There are plenty of teams that are more proven that deserve to be ranked there. They shouldn’t be anointed a top 10 finish.

does UNC deserve to be ranked higher than us? absolutely.

but they are not an 11/12 team. i think clemson is significantly better than UNC. they should be flip-flopped in the polls, IMO.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get a slingbox/tivo for xmas, be able to stream all these easily. I don’t have much to do over Thanksgiving Weekend, so I might try hooking up a connection anyway. Right now, no look. Nothing on channelsurfing or atdhe.

btw, i was watching the cinci v. vanderbilt game. man you can easily tell the difference in the level of coaching with these teams and with umd. look at the box score for the game and you’ll see the low shooting percentage for both teams and its not like either have good defenses.

fyi lance stephenson is one greedy dude, he had an open man on a fast break and didnt pass and missed the shot.
