Go Terps!
Anyone actually around for the game thread?

Fairfield aren't pushovers
But Maryland’s been really inefficient with the ball. Lots of unforced errors.
Good to see Vaz gets some points. Hopefully he gets into a rhytm.
Very scary start
Williams has been pretty bad, Vasquez has forced everything. Something about the top 25 that this team just doesn’t like.
Needham’s a baller.
This is very bad
Nothing clicking right now. Poor D, people forcing stuff, not getting rebounds…
time for Padgett.
Oye
Slow starts are hard to watch

Shots will start falling soon
The more I think about it, the less worried I am. It’s ugly, but there have been a few really near misses.
Why is hayes starting over Bowie
If I am not mistaken he was coming off the bench for most of the year well at least all of ACC play.
here we go
looks like were startin to get on a roll. I’m just lookin at a gamecast though so correct me if i’m wrong
This press is giving us hell
First time of the year, I guess that was to be expected. Didn’t know Fairfield was a pressing team, though.
Have any of you guys met Vazquez?
I met him during the tournament games in KC. I’m from iowa so its the only chance i got to see my terps
I met him at Fe one night and talked to him in between classes one time.

This slow shooting start better not become a habit
OR at least can we shake off before we get to the big boys
I'm now falling off the CT bandwagon
That was a rash decision.
Still on Mosley though, dude’s awesome.
Anyone remember the five or size game stretch when Vaz was pretty terrible?
That’s basically what he is right now.
Bowie has his flaws, but no one else on the team makes that shot
Of course, most others finish the and one, too, but I’ll take what I can get.
Jordan Williams best center at MD since.....?
Maybe jamar Smith. Amazing how Gary runs the flex which requires a low post style big man and yet we haven’t had one in the longest. Hey but whatever gets it done im for.
As soon as he figures out how to dunk
Never thought that would be a problem for a guy that once broke the backboard.
That was a scary lineup
Bowie, Tucker, Mosley, Landon, Padge.
I have a feeling that one of Hayes and Vaz will have to be on the floor at all times. If it wasn’t for Mosley, that lineup would be a disaster waiting to happen.
28 points in a half
That is not good enough to cut it in the ACC

Half was ugly as sin
Hayes looked good, Mosley looked awesome. It ends there.
Neither of the guys inside were good enough, IMO. They’re freshmen, so it’s to be expected, but I still can’t wrap my mind around why JWill hangs out around the elbow and refuses to dunk. Padge doesn’t seem too finished offensively – unfortunately, he’s not an effective option right now (monster on the boards, though).
Vaz has forced everything, from passes to shots. Just doesn’t seem in the flow right now. Mental errors have been widespread.
We need to find a third option at PG something fierce, though.
With that said, this is the first time we’ve seen a press this year, and I don’t think Vasquez will be terrible too often. Gary will make adjustments to beat the press (and berate them for mental errors) – we’ll be fine in the second half. Much rather get this out of the way now than later.
Yeah, that is what pre-conference ball is all about. Patching up and adjusting the team in order to take on the other ACC teams. We will be fine in the 2nd half and a much better team with experience under our belt, especially for the freshman.

Can we be worried about GV yet?
Not much scoring in 2 games, though EH is making up for that tonight.
Albeit against Fairfield… They are dominating the pace, not good.
He is just pressing right now
You know GV lives for the spotlight. Once the big boys come around GV will step his game up just watch
I know I'm probably overreacting
I just expected him to step up his game when we were losing by 5 to Fairfield.
I know he’ll be fine, but this is one of the aspects of his game that’s so hard to swallow. Still love him to death, of course, but consistency would be nice.
I think since Juan we haven’t had a leader who didn’t have some sorts of inconsistency.

My concern is he'll press all year
I’m not sold that all the NBA sniff test activities will be positive for him. If the NBA scouts and reps were saying “We’ll draft you high if you team wins the ACC and/or NCAA tournaments” then yeah, we’re all set.
But if they said they want to see more of X, Y and Z; and assuming X and Z are not what the TEAM needs, then we might be screwed.
I’m very hopeful that this is just a temporary thing, and he’s trying to sort himself out and get a feel for where the rest of the team is. He may feel like he needs to get Mosley and Hayes and someone else involved early so they are bigger performers.
But if not, never know.
Not worried at all. It’s early in the year and he seems like a player that always shows up when it matters most. I am kind of happy to see us depending on scoring from other players.

2 minutes in
No points. I’ll be surprised if we get 70.
Fairfield is just killing us right now defensively. I have a feeling its more us than them, though.
Quick pace seemed to work well
Surprised we haven’t tried to get up and down faster. Got four points out of quick shots and a fast break.
Those are the types of points we need from Padge
Hustle points. Williams can’t (or won’t) give us those. Offensive board and putback.
Much better looking half

Is it just me, or did
it take 3 years after his Freshman year for him to finally get to a respectable weight?
Seems like he’s finally got the mass he needs to not get pushed around. Assuming he’s just as quick and fast (for him) as he’s been in the past, this could be a good thing.
And good to see him picking up GV’s slack.
Clifford "the big red dog" Tucker
Eh, a big EH to him so far.
I can’t figure him out, though I guess supremely gifted athletes have been vexing coaches for all time when they can’t put things together. I think he needs to “have a team” and not “just” play on GV’s team.
So maybe next year all the cylinders will click. But he didn’t look great tonight.
And let’s all remember to grade on a curve here. This is Fairfield, not even George Mason.
How much do we think Gary is testing out lineups and plays etc?
I’m thinking maybe 50%?
Maybe playing with a few combinations he may not use in the regular season, getting guys a bit settled etc?
Tucker misses a layup, oops.

*GW says we played good defense.
*Fairfield did a lot of good stuff.
*We had some match-up problems, ie Mosley at the 4.
*Good effort, have to start off the game better.
*EH played on the ball a lot, trying to get GV some shots (less double teams)
- Need more tempo, more pace
- Landon did a good job with their big guys, the freshmen are learning but did a good job
- GW is glad the freshman are playing and learning, but wishes they weren’t having to play as much
- The 3 is our major strength (read: Mosley)
- NH is coming, we’re getting ready
