tobias harris at first basketball practice

on saturday, while i was warming up for the womens practice (im on the womens scout team), the guys were winding down. a handful of people were in the stands, one of whom i thought was strangely familiar. turns out it was harris, just chillin at the practice. he was there with his family, and looked like he was having a good time the whole time. i wish i had recognized him immediately so i could have said something to him (that would have looked pretty impressive if some random kid knew who you were and was excited about to possibly coming to umd). anyway, i was pretty psyched by this, and i hope the rest of his trip went well!

i also talked to ersin levent a little bit and he said hes doing great. he really is a great kid, and was doing really well in the sprints, probably like top 5 every time. i hope the kid sees the floor this year. cant wait for bball!!!

[Ed's Note by bbroman, 10/20/09 - FWIW, it appears Tobias wasn't in College Park for the first practice.]

That is awesome news. Hopefully it won’t be the last we see of him at Maryland.

Whoa...that's awesome

There’s gotta be serious interest there if he stopped off at UMD on his way back from a different visit.

Awesome!

Thanks for the news. It would be cool if you’d be willing to do an Q&A with us on what it’s like being on the Women’s basketball scout team. Shoot us an email at testudotimes@gmail.com if you’d be interested and thanks again for this insider info!

FWIW

Just heard that Tobias wasn’t at UMD. It’s easy to confuse these guys; a similar thing happened earlier, too.

uhhh...

so…who was there with his family?

No one

terpfromnh just made a mistake. No biggie; it happens a lot.

now i wanna know who it was haha. it was either someone’s lil bro, or a recruit. didnt look like any of the players though. the guy was pretty tall and on the skinnier side. 2011 recruit maybe?

So did we ever find out who it was. And does pankey come this weekend or Is he already there.

No idea on who it was

Might not’ve even been a recruit.

As for Pankey, pretty sure he visits this weekend, with Hippo coming next weekend.

The commit order is going to be interesting. What if Pankey tries to commit on the visit? Do we prefer the bigger, stronger, more athletic Hippo, who is also expected to give us a commit? Or do we take the more polished, less upside Pankey right away?

Hippo said he will probably wait until spring and maybe he likes Memphis. I would take Pankey just in case.

The way folks are talking about Pankey reminds me a lot of what was said about Byron Mouton.

At this point, I would be happy with any two of the four remaining commits. Obviously Leslie and Harris would be amazing, but however is shakes out, we have a good team coming in.

Kyrie Irving

Committed to Duke according to Zags, but apparently he is announcing his decision tonight. It seems that all signs point to Duke.

What implications does this have for the rest of UMD’s targets?

by word2bigbird on Oct 22, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

None, really

None are heavily considering Duke.

It does, however, increase the star power of the ACC, which we need to be selling HARD. Duke might close down on Irving and Harrison Barnes. WF is putting together a solid class. NCST’s killing the trail. UNC is UNC. This conference is going to blow by the Big East, and that should be a major selling point.

Also, Kyrie and Tobias seem like friends. Maybe, if they can’t play with each other, they want to play against each other?

I agree with bbroman. The one other benefit is that, by not going to one of the schools that Leslie and Harris are considering, it keeps those classes somewhat weaker and therefore less desirable.
