Rumor: Colin Borchert

Some of you may be aware of the rumor floating around on the interweb on Colinborchert10_16150_mediumColin Borchert, the Arizona PF. Message board rumors are hardly worth commenting on - rarely are they true. But it's a slow day, Terp-wise. And I promised daily updates. So, with nothing better to pontificate on, this is the topic of the day.

For those who don't know, Borchert, a rising senior, is rumored to be on the verge of committing to Maryland. Now, there are plenty of problems with this theory, not the least of which is the fact that, well, Borchert doesn't have a scholarship. Granted, this was mentioned earlier in a post sometime last week, so maybe it holds some value, but it''s unlikely.

But with the entire previous paragraph disregarded - what if it is true? Is it good, bad, what?

It all depends on your world-view. Or, more exact, your Terp-view. See, if you are one of the people that believes the Terps are barely removed from the NC and should be above taking players that aren't even in the top 75 in their position, you'd think this is bad. If you are an ultra-realist, you'd probably say "Eh, whatever we can get at this point."

I am in between. No, we should not take players that aren't one of the top 75 in their position. No, we should be above it. Unfortunately, we aren't right now. Look, it's a deep PF class. Borchert will likely be a mid 3 star player. That's not the end of the world. That doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for more, that are standards should be raised. But it also doesn't mean we have to hold out for superstars. There are definitely worse situations we could be in.
