Tyler Bass Released from Scholarship

Okay, there is some bad news today as well - Tyler Bass, an incoming QB recruit, has been released from his scholarship. The Terps had too many schollies, and asked Bass to grayshirt as a result. Bass, like most kids, didn't really like that plan and instead asked to be released from his schollie so he can attend somewhere else.

This may not seem like a big deal. But after Chris Turner, Jordan Steffy, and Josh Portis leave, we'll be left with Jamarr Robinson, Danny O'Brien, and CJ Brown. O'Brien and Brown are recruits that have committed for 2009. Bass almost certainly would've contended for a starting spot, and perhaps won it. 2010 may not be a good year for MD QBs.

Why does it seem...

...that every decent recruit of Maryland football AND hoops are orally committing and then asking for and receiving their releases? We’ve always been the weak sister of the ACC, and now it’s beginning to look real bad from a marketing and recruiting standpoint. I’ve never been a fan of Gary Williams, but now Coach Friedgen is scaring them away as well? Perhaps it is time for a new, full makeover, similar to what the University did after the death of Len Bias?
