Caleb Porzel Commits to MD

I guess this blog is lucky. The first day it's up, a solid four star running back (okay, three on Rivals) pledges to Maryland. Nice! Porzel is a pretty big get. He actually has a lot of similarities to Noel Devine on the field. He's a sprinter, and can run the 100 in 10.7. He had committed to Virginia earlier, but then decommitted and reopened his recruitment. Here's a highlight reel:

Porzel is a big get for two reasons: one, he adds some much needed depth at the running back spot. Pha'Terrell Washington, our third-string RB, was recently declared academically ineligible. It's unknown if he'll decide to come back once he becomes eligible. So after the Da'Rel Scott/Morgan Green combo (who will be used much in the same way Ball and Lattimore were used the past year or two), there is no depth. Second, Porzel has connections. He attends Good Counsel. Also from Good Council: five star linebacker (and rated the #1 LB in the nation by Rivals) Jelani Jenkins. Porzel is also a long-time friend of highly touted CB Travis Hawkins. If UMD can reel in Hawkins - let alone Jenkins - it could be Fridge's best recruiting class so far.

Big shoes to fill...

...just on reputation, if he’s going to be compared to West Virginia’s Noel Devine! At the same time, anything close to Devine would be fine w/ me, as long as he has an offensive line to run behind and something resembling a QB to keep nine defensive players off the line of scrimmage focusing on him every play.
