Cosh Takes Job at Kansas State

Big news, everyone.

Maryland defensive coordinator Chris Cosh will be returning to Kansas State as associate head coach and defensive coordinator, according to Cosh's wife, Mary. While Chris Cosh has roots in this area, he and his family also have very high regard for Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder, who recently came out of retirement to take over head coaching duties.

I'm split on this. While Cosh generally gets most of the blame for the defense, it's a little difficult to blame him too much with the lack of talent on the defense.

What does this mean? Less LEO? Less soft zone? We'll see. More reactions coming soon.

Hello All

I’m one of three bloggers at Bring On The Cats, the SB Nation blog for K-State. Can you guys give me a little background on Cosh’s time at Maryland?

Thanks in advance.

Meh

At best. He tends to give up big plays at bad moments, and likes to go to the prevent defense the second we get a lead. If the talent on the team is decent, he’s terrible. If the talent isn’t good (as I expect – it’s difficult to tell, b/c most of these players have only played under Cosh), I’d say he’s average. The defense isn’t going to make a big play, and tends to be susceptible to big performances against them, but every once and awhile, the scheme will work perfectly and the other team will be shut down. Those are few and far in between, unfortunately.

recruits

do we know which recruits Cosh had been responsible for? Also do we know who they will be assigned to in his absence? Do I remember correctly that Cosh had been the point of contact with the OL from St Johns? Who else?

Recruits

He recruited Pete DeSouza, Eric Franklin and Caleb Porzel – those are three guys I’d really like to keep. He’s also going after Pete White (the OL from St. Johns) and Terrance Garvin.

I think the commits will be safe. DeSouza, Franklin, and Porzel all committed relatively early, so have probably gotten to know some people and the school a little bit. Statistics say that one of them will probably leaves, unfortunately.

White has said before he’s “very loyal” to Cosh…not good news.
