Crash and Burn

The picture below sums it up rather nicely.

More to come tomorrow. I heard Fridge's post game radio interview; he was pissed. But I'm tired of hearing "We practiced so well and it didn't translate to the game." Or "Our players were sleepwalking." I put a lot of that on the coaches. Fridge indicated that they had hoped to get health during the bye this week but that they'll be working the guys extra hard now after this train wreck of a game.  I'm not sure I've ever seen Maryland look as bad as they did tonight - offense, defense and special teams. Dreadful.

This was the only highlight of the game...

Once again

Getting quite used to this aren’t we? “they were sleep walking”, “couldn’t get it going”, “we were totally unprepared”. Face it, Friedgen has no clue as to how to motivate a team! My only reaction was a disgusted laugh as I watched the score updates come in last night, I’d been thinking all week that it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see them lose this game…it’s what Friedgens teams do, now 31-0 to a lousy UVA team, that may have set a new low. This isn’t a matter of talent, there was enough talent to beat Cal and Clemson, so there was enough talent to beat weak MTSU and UVA teams. This is about mental preparation and motivation…and I don’t think Friedgen has a clue in these areas. “I warned the players they could lose this game”..Hunh?! What kind of motivation is this for a team? I think the players are pretty much left to motivate themselves, for a good opponent that’s no problem, but when they face a weaker opponent I believe they tend to think “this will be a cake walk for us” and they’re not really into the game. It’s the coaches job to get the players mentally ready to go…and Friedgen doesn’t have the ability to do it. I think we’re finding out why he spent all those years as a top offensive coordinator without getting a head post…AD’s saw what we’re finding out. He should have stayed an OC. Unfortunately with the money situation at MD we’re stuck with him. I’ll still watch and root for them but it will be with a little bit more detachment because I know that no matter how good the Terps might be, the end result will be the same…MEDIOCRITY!!
